Is Anxiety Disorder Therapy Needed For All Types Of Anxiety Disorders?

Several forms of anxiety disorder exist. These disorders cause problems for millions of people each year. While each type has its own set of triggers and causes, the suffering inflicted on those who have an anxiety disorder can be described as difficult at best. In many of these cases, anxiety disorder therapy will be needed to live a full and happy life.

While normal levels of anxiety are experienced by everyone from time to time, those with a disorder seem to have irrational fears that simply don't go away on their own. Let's discuss some of the most common anxiety disorders that doctors routinely treat.

Types Of Anxiety Disorders

  1. GAD, or generalized anxiety disorder is the most common. Women tend to suffer from GAD more than men and often cannot explain the anxiety they're feeling. The condition usually extends for long periods of time, often for 6 months or more and can cause dizziness, headaches and insomnia. Heart palpitations are also common symptoms of generalized anxiety disorders.
  2. Phobias are a type of anxiety disorder where the sufferer is afraid of a particular object or of certain types of situations. However, unlike a specific phobia that's common to a large number of people, there's no apparent reason for the fear. Nonetheless, the fear is intense and can cause nausea, trouble breathing, shakiness and heart palpitations. Social phobias are another type of disorder where an individual believes everyone is paying attention to them all the time when they really are not.
  3. Post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is common in people who have gone through severe and emotional traumatic experiences. Examples of situations causing PTSD include having a near-death experience or seeing the death of someone else. This type of anxiety disorder is seen frequently in veterans of the armed forces as well as members of the police force.
  4. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) involves having a continuous need or obsession with something. OCD is often characterized by repeating a task over and over again although it's completely unnecessary.
  5. Panic disorders result in anxiety or panic attacks. It's not uncommon for someone who suffers from anxiety to also experience attacks at some point. Often the person feels as if they're havingĀ  a heart attack because the symptoms are similar.

In many of these instances, anxiety disorder therapy provides an good option forĀ treating anxiety. If you experience any of these symptoms, it's wise to seek a professional opinion and get treated as soon as possible. Therapy is certainly something to consider.
