Just having severe anxiety can be very upsetting. Once you seek treatment, you're likely to get even more upset, confused and bewildered by the process of going on anxiety disorder medication. Realize that it's important not to just take medication for the sake of taking it. You should also understand what the medication does and whether or not it really is right for you.

One of the main problems is that there are so many possible anxiety medications available, making it difficult to find the right one. Let's look at some of them so you have a better idea of what you're in for.

MAOI's:

You've probably heard the term MAOI before, but you may not know what it stands for. It stands for Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors. MAOIs are often used to treat depression and anxiety. The only problem with them is that they can often react badly with other medications. So, if your doctor wants to put you on MAOIs, be sure to tell him or her what other medications you are taking, if any.

Benzodiazepines:

Benzodiazepines are another common form of depression and anxiety medication. The great thing about them is they act very fast. If you have social anxiety problems, they can be very convenient. However, they can be addictive and shouldn't be used by those who are prone to addictive behavior.

SSRI's:

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, or SSRIs, are among the first medications that your doctor might suggest for your anxiety problem. They're more of a general medication though. If your doctor decides that you need a more specific treatment, he might not suggest SSRIs.

Beta Blockers:

Beta blockers have a unique quality that other anxiety medications don't. They actually help with physical anxiety symptoms. For example, if your anxiety attacks often come with shakiness or a quickened heart rate, your doctor could prescribe beta blockers to control those symptoms.

As you can see, there are a lot of anxiety disorder medication options available to you. Be sure to talk to your doctor and make certain that you're being put on the medication that is best for you. Don't just assume that whatever you're taking is right.

Finding the right anxiety attacks treatment is not something that should be taken lightly. You might only have one once in a while, but they can get worse over time. Of course, depending on how severe your attacks are, treatment options can vary. It all depends on how bad your attacks are and how often you suffer from them. If you have a mild case, you might be able to get rid of your attacks entirely.

Reasons For Anxiety Attacks

Reasons for anxiety attacks aren't really clear, so it can be hard to figure out why you suffer from them. That can also make them hard to treat. Some experts think that hormones play a big part, though. Regardless of why you have them, the most important thing is finding a cure.

Once you are free of the stress and strain of anxiety attacks, you'll find that a lot of things become much easier.

Gaining Confidence

If you have anxiety attacks, you may have low self-esteem. Low self-esteem leads to low self-confidence. If you often feel caged or trapped in situations with lots of people, you know what I mean. Treating your attacks can open up a whole new world for you.

Mental Attitude

People who suffer from severe anxiety often find it leading to breakdowns. In fact, some even think about suicide. So, getting professional treatment for your anxiety can give you a whole new outlook on life.

Getting The Job Done

Of course, anxiety attacks can also affect your ability to do well at school, work or in any other situation where you need to get things done, especially if those things need to be done in a hurry. If you can say good-bye to anxiety, you can get a lot more done in a lot less time.

Anxiety Treatment Options

Although seeking medical help and possibly taking medication is one way to treat anxiety, there are other options, too. Acupressure and acupuncture are a couple of the alternatives that you could consider. Another great option is massage. Massages can be very relaxing, especially when you combine the massage treatment with nice, relaxing aromatherapy.

Any way you look at it, curing your anxiety attacks can result in a huge improvement to your daily life. That's why it's important for you to pursue an anxiety attacks treatment as soon as you can. Look at all the options to find the one that will work best for you.

Everyone feels nervous once in a while, but anxiety attacks are a whole other matter. If you suffer from chronic anxiety attacks, you know exactly what I mean. If your anxiety attacks are keeping you from doing a lot of normal activities, for instance, they can be very crippling. In that case, it's important for you to find the best anxiety attack cure that you can.

When is an anxiety attack coming?

Knowing the signs of an impending anxiety attack can help you to be better prepared for it. Some of the things you might experience are shortness of breath, headaches or a quick pulse. Additionally, you may also feel extreme dread or panic in a situation. When you can recognize those signs early, you'll have a better opportunity to stop your anxiety attack.

If you have anxiety, you probably feel like you'll never be rid of it. Fortunately, life doesn't have to be all anxiety attacks. There are ways to get some relief. Let's talk about a few of them now.

Control Your Situation

Instead of letting your anxiety control you, try to control your anxiety. One way to do that is to keep telling yourself that you'll be ok. In fact, you could even think of a specific word or phrase to repeat to yourself when you feel anxious.

Take A Breather

Taking a breather actually has two meanings for you, if you have an anxiety problem. The first is that you can just step out of a situation. Take a few minutes away. Collect your thoughts a bit. The other is that you can literally take a breath. In fact, taking several deep breaths can help you to calm down a bit and think more clearly. Both of those things can really help you if you're in an uncomfortable situation.

Create A Kit

Just like people prepare first aid kits or emergency kits for disasters or injuries, you can create one for panic attacks. Put things in your kit that calm you down, such as soft music, a favorite book or even the phone numbers of some friends or family that you can call when you are having an attack.

Having anxiety isn't easy, but there is help out there. So, with a little patience, you can find the anxiety attack cure that works best for you.

Finding a social anxiety treatment today is easier than ever because so many people are diagnosed with the disorder each year. Help is available in the from of support groups, medications as well as therapy. The only requirement for treatment is that if you're suffering from social anxiety, you need to ask for help.

All ages can suffer from social anxiety and it can start at any time. Let's take a look at some of the symptoms common to social anxiety.

Social Anxiety Symptoms

1. Feelings that everyone is watching you - Individuals who suffer from social anxiety often believe that all eyes are on them when they're shopping or standing in line at the bank, for instance. Everywhere they go they feel like they're being watched and this makes them uncomfortable to say the least. They might experience a faster heart rate or start sweating as a result.

2. Tense muscles - When you're placed in a stressful or uncomfortable situation, it's common to experience muscle tension. Someone with social anxiety may find themselves stiffening up and even experience a cracking voice when they speak. Dry mouth and trouble swallowing are also common symptoms.

3. Nausea - Some people get a nauseous feeling when they experience social anxiety. Often described as butterflies in the stomach, many people report feeling dizzy and having sweaty or clammy palms. Increased heart rate and flushed cheeks are also common complaints.

Anyone who suffers from social anxiety may have one or more of these symptoms in various combinations. If you have any of the social anxiety symptoms mentioned and feel a general disruption to your life as a result, consult your doctor about the many social anxiety treatment options available to you. Continuing to suffer is completely unnecessary because there is so much help available.

Anyone who suffers with anxiety should consider anxiety cognitive therapy as a possible treatment option. Doctors tend to recommend this option first because anxiety medications are not required for the treatment to be successful.

Cognitive therapy works by partnering with a therapist to figure out how your current thoughts are contributing to your feelings of anxiety and perhaps depression. These thoughts are then labeled and used to create an action plan to overcome them. By going through this process, a great deal of control is gained by the patient as old, negative beliefs are replaced with positive, more accurate beliefs.

It's interesting to note that negative thoughts carried around by most people suffering from anxiety and depression did not originate within them. They were usually placed there years ago through an abusive relationship of some sort. Many people may not have realized any type of abuse happened because it was mental rather than physical in nature. During an anxiety cognitive therapy session, you and your therapist will decipher these thoughts and work to change them.

How Do You Know If You Suffer From Anxiety?

People who suffer from anxiety feel like they have little or no control over their emotions and tend to become stressed easily. Although there are several specific types of anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder is the most common and it seems to affect more women than men. Sufferers are fearful and worry about anything and everything. They may even wonder why they're anxious because there's nothing rational to be worried about... they simply cannot help it.

Because of the generalized nature of the disorder, it can be difficult to find the root cause of it. That's why anxiety cognitive therapy can be a good option because a therapist can assist in the discovery phase of treatment. If you experience any feeling of anxiety or depression on a regular basis, make sure to schedule a consultation with your doctor. It's possible to feel much better with the right treatment.

Children of all ages can experience child separation anxiety. When children encounter unfamiliar places, people or circumstances they can feel excessive amounts of stress resulting in feelings of anxiety. The discomfort and fear felt by the child can cause nausea, vomiting as well as physical pain. Parents tend to feel unnecessary guilt over this type of anxiety as well.

Many children simply outgrow the condition but sometimes over the counter medications or home remedies are used to deal with the symptoms. There are times when the condition is serious enough to warrant a doctor's prescription. You may also want to rule out any underlying causes of the anxiety that may represent bigger issues.

Treating Separation Anxiety During Childhood

One of the simplest and most effective ways to help your child overcome separation anxiety is to introduce new situations slowly. Stay with your child for the first few minutes in a new environment and give explicit information about when you'll return. Reassure him or her that you will return and be sure to come back when you say you will. With time and consistency, children begin to feel less anxious and the condition becomes less severe and often disappears completely without further treatment.

When a child experiences a lot of stress during normal separation from parents, a natural or herbal remedy may help to restore calmness. Check with your local health food store or vitamin shop for options. You can also find a lot of choices available online.

In severe cases of child separation anxiety, you many find it necessary to take your child to the doctor. There may be an underlying medical reason that's causing the anxiety or you may determine that a prescription medicine is required for relief. Although separation anxiety usually goes away over time, immediate relief for both parent and child is usually desired during the interim.

A surprising number of people search for a social anxiety cure each year. Because the cause of social anxiety can be different for each individual, there are a variety of treatments to be considered. Often sufferers turn to social anxiety medication for relief but it's important to look at all options and consult with a physician for the best course of action.

Treating The Symptoms Of Social Anxiety

One of the best ways to treat social anxiety is to understand what's causing it and treat those specific issues. For instance, if stress is the main culprit, take steps to reduce stress and practice relaxation techniques. These stress reduction strategies should be practiced on a daily basis, whether or not the anxiety is present. Not only will such a ritual help to prevent social anxiety, it will make it less severe when it happens.

Sometimes social anxiety medication is used to bring relief to specific situations. See your doctor if you feel a prescribed medicine would benefit you. There are also a number of herbal remedies available that can help relieve anxiety and encourage relaxation. However, medications should only be taken as needed rather than on a continuous basis unless directed to do so by a physician.

Therapy is also an option for overcoming social anxiety. Both individualized therapy sessions as well as group-based meetings are options for treatment. Severe cases may require one-on-one treatment with a therapist while mild cases may benefit sufficiently from a group.

If you suffer from anxiety, make sure you're not doing anything that might make your condition worse. Stimulants such as caffeine can make some people nervous as can certain medications containing stimulants or amphetamines. See your doctor to determine if any prescriptions you're taking might cause unintended side effects such as anxiety.

Most importantly, if the first social anxiety cure you try doesn't work well for you, keep looking for alternative solutions. There is help available, it's just a matter of finding the right fit for you.

When excessive amounts of fear and worry start to take over a person's life, an anxiety disorder is usually to blame. It's a condition that decreases its victim's ability to function normally in everyday situations and causes a lot of unnecessary distress. Many people decide to seek treatment once they have experienced a common and extremely frightening anxiety disorder symptom known as the panic or anxiety attack.

What Is An Anxiety Panic Attack?

A panic attack generally starts with an intense amount of fear. Most often the worry and fear experienced is not rational or serious - it just seems that way to the person suffering. However, the panic attack itself is very real and can cause several problems.

Normal fear and worry caused by ordinary stress do not typically lead to anxiety disorder or panic attacks. Rather, anxiety disorder is characterized by symptoms that last for prolonged periods of time and are suffered on a recurring basis.

When an anxiety or panic attack is looming, noticeable symptoms such as a rapidly beating heart, breathing difficulties and overwhelming feelings of doom are often present. Often this leads to stomach ache, diarrhea, dry mouth and other forms of physical pain. The sufferer may also feel dizzy, have trouble swallowing and may feel the need to urinate frequently.

Several mental symptoms are also common with anxiety disorders including insomnia, irritability and loss of concentration ability. Intense feelings of fear or impending doom are also possible.

It's important to seek medical attention if you experience panic attacks or any other anxiety disorder symptom. A qualified professional can provide diagnosis and offer a number of suitable treatment options for you. With all the help available, it's really a shame and completely unnecessary to suffer with anxiety disorder. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Existential anxiety is a condition that relates to excessive worry about abstract concepts such as mortality and searching for the meaning of life. Discussed below are 3 existential anxiety psychotherapy methods and a bit of history about each.

Multi-Modal Therapy - Multi-modal therapy is a type of psychotherapy developed by the South African psychologist Arnold Lazarus in response to what he viewed as a disturbingly high relapse rate among anxiety disorder sufferers being treated with traditional Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) methods. Multimodal therapy is based around the acronym BASIC ID, which stands for Behavior, Affect, Sensation, Imagery, Cognition, Interpersonal (relationships), and Drugs, though the latter aspect includes all biological factors related to brain chemistry. It advocates eclecticism in treating patients, drawing treatments from a variety of different traditions and approaches.

Multimodal therapy takes great pains to tailor itself to the needs of the individual client, meaning that it is unsuitable for use in an anxiety group therapy setting. It can sometimes include treatments from outside what as traditionally thought of as anxiety psychotherapy, such as diet and exercise regimes where an unhealthy lifestyle is thought to be a contributing factor in the patient's psychological disorders.

Logotherapy - Logotherapy was the work of Viennese neurologist Victor Frankl. It is sometimes referred to as the "third Viennese school", following the schools of Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler. Where Freud focused on the "will to pleasure" and Adler on the "will to power", Frankl concentrated on what he termed the "will to meaning". His thesis was based on the notion that humankind has an ingrained desire to see order in the cosmos, and that psychological disorders are based upon the perception of cosmic disorder.

Frankl was a Holocaust survivor, and his thought was strongly influenced by his experiences in a Nazi concentration camp. In the prologue of his book Man's Search for Meaning, he described how his suffering drew him to the conclusion that life has meaning even in the most appalling circumstances, and how his work came to reflect that.

In Logotherapy, treating anxiety is based around Socratic dialogue and self-observation. The treatment does not seek to attain a painless existence, rather it sees suffering as an opportunity to find meaning. Meaning can be found through achieving a quest, through experiencing love in any of its myriad forms, or simply coming to terms with suffering and accepting it as an inevitable part of life.

Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy - Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) was developed by Albert Ellis. It draws from the work of Asian and Classical philosophers and is based on the assumption that the human psyche contains both rational and irrational components which are often in conflict with each other. Anxiety is often caused by irrational thoughts that lead to self-destructive behaviors. REBT seeks to educate the patient and empower them to lead happier, more fulfilling lives by replacing irrational thoughts with rational ones.

If you suffer from existential anxiety, consult your doctor to see if anxiety psychotherapy may be a good treatment option for you.
